Moving Day Hacks

  1. Purge your closets before you move and don't pack anything that you haven't needed, worn, or used in a year. This will also reduce the amount of laundry you have to do regularly. Who doesn't dream about that? You basically want to purge, every drawer, every cabinet, and every nook!

  1. Pack a cooler so you have easy-to-grab snacks and water as needed. Don’t pack this in the back of the moving truck. I also like to back a suitcase as if I were staying in a hotel for a few nights. A couple of outfits, socks, toiletries, chargers, and a Bluetooth speaker. This way you don't have to dig and search for a shirt in the morning before you've unpacked. Keep it with you so it doesn't get buried in boxes.

  1. Don't empty dresser drawers. Leave items there, and wrap the drawer in plastic wrap. Likewise, leave clothes on hangers and store them in a garbage bag or wardrobe box. This will save you an insane amount of time!

  1. Put a fitted sheet on both sides of your mattress before loading it into the moving truck to keep it clean. The amount of grim that lives in the back of a moving truck is actually gross. And moving boxes are also pretty dirty even when new.

  1. Fill large kitchen pots and other containers with small kitchen gadgets or spices to save space and cut down on boxes.

  1. Put stemware and glasses inside of clean socks for free padding. Shirts and scarfs work nicely as well.

  1. Snap a pic of the back of your TV or other electronics to help you remember where all those wires go.

  1. Get little ones and pets out from underfoot. If making a crosstown move, schedule a playdate or a sleepover so you can focus on the move and have time to get somewhat settled before they arrive home.

  1. If you are over the age of 30, Hire professional movers. Protect your back and knees at all costs!

  1. Create a fantastic Moving Day Playlist to keep you motivated while unpacking! I fave a few, and I'd be happy to share.
